How to Grow White Cabbage Langedijker Bewaar Seeds
White Cabbage ‘Langedijker Bewaar’ seeds are best sown indoors from February to April or directly outdoors from April to May. They germinate best at temperatures between 10–18°C.
For indoor sowing, use seed trays or small pots filled with seed compost. Sow seeds about 0.5–1 cm deep, lightly cover with soil, and water gently. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Seedlings usually emerge within 7–12 days. Once they sprout, place them in a bright, cool location to encourage sturdy growth. When seedlings have 4–5 true leaves, harden them off gradually for 7–10 days before planting outside.
Choose a sunny location with fertile, firm, well-drained soil. Cabbages prefer soil rich in organic matter, so incorporate compost before planting. Space plants 50–60 cm apart, with rows 60–70 cm apart. Firm the soil well around each plant and water thoroughly.
Water regularly, especially during dry periods, as consistent moisture is essential for forming solid heads. Apply mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Feed every 3–4 weeks with a balanced fertilizer or compost tea for best results.
‘Langedijker Bewaar’ is a late-season storage variety and typically matures in 120–150 days. Harvest when heads are firm and fully developed. With proper storage in a cool, dark place, the cabbages can keep for several months.
