How to grow Verbena Seeds

Verbena seeds grow best in full sun and light, well-drained soil. Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost, or sow outdoors once the soil has warmed. Sow on the surface or cover very lightly, as verbena seeds need some light to germinate. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged at 18–24°C. Germination can be slow and uneven, often taking 14–28 days.

Transplant seedlings outdoors after frost risk has passed, spacing plants about 25–35 cm apart. Water seedlings regularly until established, then water moderately, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Verbena is well suited to Mediterranean climates and performs well in warm, sunny conditions. Once established, it is fairly drought-tolerant, although container-grown plants may need more frequent watering during hot weather.

For best care, deadhead faded flowers to encourage continuous blooming and pinch young plants to promote bushier growth. Feed potted plants lightly every few weeks during the flowering season, and avoid overwatering or heavy, wet soil. Verbena is excellent for balconies, patios, pots, window boxes, hanging baskets, sunny borders, and pollinator-friendly planting, attracting bees and butterflies.
