DESCRIPTION

Portulaca grandiflora Double Mixed, commonly known as moss rose, produces vibrant, double blooms in a wide range of colours including pink, red, yellow, orange, and white. The rose-like flowers open in full sun and sit above succulent, needle-like foliage that thrives in hot, dry conditions. Its low-growing, spreading habit makes it ideal for containers, hanging baskets, and edging, where it creates a bright carpet of colour. Extremely easy to grow and highly drought tolerant, it is perfect for sunny, low-maintenance gardens and Mediterranean climates.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS

Sow seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost or directly outdoors after frost has passed. Seeds need light to germinate, so press them lightly onto the soil surface without covering. Keep soil lightly moist until germination.

Transplant or thin seedlings to about 15–20 cm apart. Grow in full sun and well-drained soil; portulaca performs best in poor to moderately fertile soil and does not require feeding.

Water sparingly once established, as plants are highly drought tolerant and prefer dry conditions. Avoid overwatering, which can lead to weak growth.
