How to grow Climbing French Bean Cobra Seeds

French Bean Cobra is a warm-season climbing bean variety that produces slender, tender pods and benefits from support as it grows.

Planting French Bean Seeds

Plant the seeds outdoors after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed up, usually in late spring or early summer.

Sowing & Spacing

Sow the seeds about 2–3 cm deep directly into the soil and space them 5–10 cm apart in rows spaced 45–60 cm apart.

Location & Soil

Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-drained soil. French beans thrive in full sun, receiving at least 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day.

Prepare the soil by loosening it to a depth of about 15–20 cm. Remove any weeds and incorporate organic matter.

Indoor Sowing

Alternatively, you can plant seeds in hills or raised beds. If starting indoors, sow three seeds to a 15 cm pot.

Watering

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water the plants deeply once or twice a week, depending on weather conditions.

Support

French bean plants benefit from support as they grow. Install trellises, stakes, or bean poles near the plants to provide support for the vines to climb.

Harvesting

French Bean Cobra plants typically produce slender, tender pods that are ready for harvest 50–60 days after planting. Harvest the beans when they are young and tender, about 10–15 cm long, by gently snapping them off the vine.

To extend the harvest period, sow additional batches of French Bean Cobra seeds every 2–3 weeks throughout the growing season.
