How to grow Mirabilis Jalapa Seeds

Mirabilis Jalapa, also known as Four O'Clocks, produces colourful and fragrant blooms that usually open in the late afternoon and remain open until the next morning.

When to Sow Mirabilis Seeds

Mirabilis Jalapa seeds can be sown directly into the garden after the last frost date in your area. They prefer warm soil for germination.

Sowing & Germination

Sow seeds directly into the garden soil, spacing them about 30 cm apart. Plant the seeds about 0.5 cm deep and cover lightly with soil.

Watering

Water the seeds gently to moisten the soil. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination occurs. Mirabilis Jalapa seeds typically germinate within 7–14 days.

Sunlight

Mirabilis prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Choose a location that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight per day.

Maintenance

Once the seedlings have emerged, thin to ensure proper spacing. Provide regular watering, especially during dry periods.

Mulching around the plants can help retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Blooming

With proper care, Mirabilis Jalapa plants will begin to bloom in about 8–10 weeks after sowing seeds. Enjoy the colorful and fragrant blooms throughout the summer and fall.
