How to grow Sage Seeds

To start growing sage from seed, begin by sowing the seeds indoors in a greenhouse or on a warm, sunny windowsill. Sage seeds require warmth for successful germination, so wait until temperatures are consistently above 18°C before considering moving the plants outdoors. Alternatively, you can directly sow the seeds outside when the weather has warmed up to 18°C or higher, typically in late spring or early summer.

Sage thrives in light, well-draining soil enriched with some well-composted organic material. When sowing the seeds, lightly cover them with a fine layer of soil, just enough to protect them without burying them too deep. Keep the soil consistently moist during the germination period, which usually takes between 7 to 21 days.

Once the seedlings reach about 5 cm in height, thin them out to prevent overcrowding and ensure each plant has enough space to grow. Transplant the strongest seedlings outside when the weather is warm, and all risk of frost has passed. Sage plants are fully mature in 60 to 90 days, at which point they will be ready for harvest.
