PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This popular blue thistle variety is naturally dwarf and compact (Up to 30cm tall) and especially floriferous.

It is a true perennial with strong, erect stems that are an ornamental silver-blue colour. Sea holly is a favorite of flower arrangers due to its striking foliage and flower-heads.

How to grow Eryngium Blue Hobbit from Seeds

Sow into moist, well-drained seed compost, covering with a very thin layer of soil. Place the entire seed container inside a plastic bag and keep in the fridge at 4°C for 2-3 weeks (or outside if weather permits).

Remove from fridge and place in a shady part of the garden, keeping the container covered with plastic or glass. Germination is irregular at 5-90 days. As each seed germinates in turn transplant to a 7cm pot.

Eryngium likes full sun and sandy, well-drained soil. Water the plants well after first transplanting. After they are established, they are quite drought-tolerant and need less frequent watering. They don't like being re-transplanted after they are well established as their roots are often several feet long.

As a perennial, sea holly will come back year after year and self-seeds easily (without being invasive).
